ZoneAlarm is designed to protect your DSL- or cable-connected PC from hackers. This program includes four interlocking security services: a firewall, an application control, an Internet lock, and Zones. The firewall controls the door to your computer and allows only traffic you understand and initiate. The Internet lock blocks Internet traffic while your computer is unattended or while you're not using the Internet, and it can be activated automatically with your computer's screensaver or after a set period of inactivity. Zones monitor all activity on your computer and alert you when a new application attempts to access the Internet.

ZoneAlarm was originally developed by Zone Labs, which was acquired in 2003 by Check Point. It includes an inbound intrusion detection system, as well as the ability to control which programs can create outbound connection.

Their newest release is ZoneAlarm 7.1.248.000 which is the first version to be compatible with the Microsoft Windows Vista operating system.

ZoneAlarm versions,

ZoneAlarm - This is a freeware version which includes a web and local network firewall with outbound program control and port stealthing.

ZoneAlarm Pro - This is ZoneAlarm's second most expensive product that offers a pop-up blocker, adware detection, identity protection, cookie blocker and process monitor. It does not have Antivirus features.

ZoneAlarm Anti-Spyware - This product has all the features of ZoneAlarm Pro except for the privacy and identity theft features.

ZoneAlarm Antivirus - It is the original ZoneAlarm firewall with antivirus protection. Its Anti-Virus engine is powered by Kaspersky Labs.

ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite - This includes all the features of every product with additional IM security and an anti-spam filter engine provided by MailFrontier. It is also the most expensive ZoneAlarm product.

IMSecure - This program protects and encrypts chat from the following IM clients: (AIM, Yahoo!, MSN, ICQ, Trillian). It protects the user's personal information and other IM threats.

ZoneAlarm Force Field - This is ZoneAlarm's virtualization engine that shields the computer and personal data from Internet and computer-based threats. It also includes several layers of protection to combat phishing, spyware and dangerous file downloads.
